Overview
About New Patios
Where a patio goes matters as much as what it is made of. We look at where the sun actually lands in the late afternoon, how you reach it from the back door, and whether the ground needs levelling before anything is laid. Patios are set on a full mortar bed rather than dabs, with a fall running away from the house and clear of the damp course, which is what keeps water off the wall.

The process
How the job runs
- 1
Set out where it should go
We work out where the sun lands in the afternoon, how the patio meets the back door, and what has to be dug out or built up to reach a level surface.
- 2
Dig out and prepare
The area is excavated, a compacted base is laid, and the finished height is set clear of the damp proof course so water can never track back into the wall.
- 3
Lay to a fall
Paving is bedded on full mortar, not on dabs, with a fall running away from the house. Slabs on dabs are the reason patios rock and joints crack.
- 4
Finish and walk it with you
Joints are filled, the edges finished against the lawn or border, and once the surface is washed down we walk the patio with you and go through how to keep the paving and jointing looking good.
The price
New Patios costs
No two jobs price the same, and anyone quoting over the phone without seeing it is guessing. These are the things that actually move the number, and the visit to work them out is free.
- The area, and how much of the shape needs cutting
- Paving choice, from concrete slab through sandstone to porcelain
- Level changes, and whether steps or a retaining wall are involved
- Access to the back garden, which often means barrowing everything in and out
- How much spoil comes out and goes away
New Patios we take on
Why choose us
Why people call us for this
- 1
Private homes only
We only work on private homes and gardens, so a domestic job is the job, not a gap between contracts.
- 2
The groundwork gets its time
The groundwork gets the time it needs. That is unglamorous, and it is the whole difference between a surface that lasts and one that moves.
- 3
Waste leaves with us
Waste leaves with us, so you are not left disposing of spoil, old slabs or brash.
- 4
One point of contact
You deal with the person doing the work, so nothing gets lost between a salesman and a fitter.
