Overview
About Block Paving Driveways
Block paving is still the most flexible driveway surface, and the only one where a damaged patch is a genuinely small repair: lift the affected blocks, put right what is underneath, and re-lay the same blocks. It also lets you set out a border, a contrasting edge course or a circular feature without changing material. The blocks are laid on a screeded bed over the compacted sub-base, vibrated in, then jointed with kiln-dried sand.

The process
How the job runs
- 1
Come and look at the job
We measure up and check the things that actually move a price: access for a digger and a grab lorry, where the water currently drains, and whether the levels work at the threshold.
- 2
Excavate to depth
The old surface and the soft ground beneath it come out and go away. This is the step that gets skipped on a cheap drive, and it is the reason cheap drives sink.
- 3
Sub-base and edgings
A stone sub-base goes in in layers and is compacted, then the edge restraints are bedded in concrete. Without a restrained edge, any surface starts to spread and break up from the outside in.
- 4
Lay the surface
The surface you have chosen goes down onto the prepared base, set out so the falls run away from the house and towards the drainage.
- 5
Walk the finished drive with you
The spoil and offcuts leave with us and the surface is swept off, then we go round the finished drive together, make sure you are happy with it, and talk you through the few simple things that keep it looking its best for years.
The price
Block Paving Driveways costs
No two jobs price the same, and anyone quoting over the phone without seeing it is guessing. These are the things that actually move the number, and the visit to work them out is free.
- The area, and how much cutting the shape needs
- Block choice, from standard concrete through to textured and stone-effect ranges
- Whether you want a contrasting border or a circular feature, which adds cutting time
- The depth of dig and the volume of spoil removed
- Access for materials and machinery
Why choose us
Why people call us for this
- 1
Private homes only
We only work on private homes and gardens, so a domestic job is the job, not a gap between contracts.
- 2
The groundwork gets its time
The groundwork gets the time it needs. That is unglamorous, and it is the whole difference between a surface that lasts and one that moves.
- 3
Waste leaves with us
Waste leaves with us, so you are not left disposing of spoil, old slabs or brash.
- 4
One point of contact
You deal with the person doing the work, so nothing gets lost between a salesman and a fitter.
