We excavate, lay and compact a free-draining sub-base, screed it level, then fix and join the grass so there is no ridge along the seam and no hollow that collects water.

The process
How the job runs

Strip the old lawn out
Turf and soft topsoil are dug out and taken away. Laying grass over old lawn is what leads to soft spots and dips a year later.

Base and compact
A free-draining stone base goes in and is compacted in layers, so the finished surface has something firm under it that still lets water through.

Screed level
A laying course is screeded off flat. Any unevenness here shows through the grass, so this is where the finish is won or lost.

Lay, join and fix
The grass is rolled out, left to settle, then cut in around edges, joined along the seams and fixed at the perimeter.

Dress, brush up and hand over
Sand is spread and brushed through the pile to weight it down and hold the fibres upright, then we walk the finished lawn with you and go through the little it takes to keep it looking its best.
